The Washington Post announced on Monday that it was implementing another shopping program, this time aimed at veteran employees and other department employees.
“ Today, we are announcing that the Washington Post offers a voluntary separation program (VSP) to news employees with 10 or more years of service in the publication, as well as to all members of the video department and all members of the copy copying board and the sports copy table, ” wrote the executive editor of Washington Post, Matt Murt, in a staff note obtained by Fox News Digital.
The note stated that the move was part of the “transformation efforts of the Washington Post -on -one news room for remodeling and modernizing the news room for the current environment.”
“Like the rest of our industry, we adapt to changing habits and new technologies that are transforming news experiences. Although we have begun to create new departments and welcome new colleagues, to reach new audiences, we must increase our flexibility of staff and expand in areas such as public and social video data,” said Murray.
Murray told the staff that the purchase program would conclude at the end of July.
“With the VSP, we will certainly see that the valued colleagues decide to leave the publication,” Murray wrote.
“ But as administrators of this great institution, we must all keep focused on a relentless way when they bring attractive and relevant journalism to a growing number of readers in the formats and the ways they want in 2025. This is an urgent and important task for us, given the pace of technological change, the evolutionary landscape of industry and the always present of producing and promoting strong, rigorous and independent journalism.
According to a VSP document seen by Fox News Digital, nine months of base remuneration will be delivered to employees for 10-15 years, 12 months of base payment for veterans of 15-20 years, 15 months of base payment for veterans of 20-25 years and 18 months for anyone who has worked for more than 25 years.
All of them will also receive 12 months of payment credit to their Independent Retirement Account (SRA).
A Washington Post staff told Fox News Digital that the new purchase program is “less demanding” than previous purchasing rounds, and adds that copy publishers are “always goals” and that “they are always supplied.”
“Less important who stays or goes. I just want to decrease numbers,” the staff said.
A spokesman for The Washington Post told Fox News Digital: “ The Washington Post continues its transformation to meet the needs of the industry, build a more sustainable future and achieve the public where they are. This voluntary program is part of our ongoing efforts aimed at remodeling the way in which world-class news experiences and expand our scope to serve all Americans. ”
The role “Democracy days in Darkness” was affected by layoffs earlier this year and previously implemented purchases in 2023.
The charge is expected to lose a huge amount of $ 77 million by 2024.
